So a lot of you are curious and worried about this new role...Yet I am totally confident I have the skills to help make change in people's lives. My new boss put it this way "Most people perception of probation officer is-Trail 'em, Nail 'em, and Jail 'em", but the reality is Colorado is very progressive and sees this as an opportunity to facilitate change. Most of my co-workers are counselors and social workers. Actually there is 3 other people in the district who used to work at Trailhead with Alex and I! I also will be helping the district develop a career/employment service program for probationers. If they are working, they can't relapse as easily.
And the other great thing is that they took my pregnancy very well. I did not tell them until my first day-illegal or not, no one wants to hire a pregnant woman. But I have felt nothing but support from my boss and coworkers:) Now this does means I will take a shorter maternity leave then I would like, and childcare for Gummi Bear, but the salary is great and I generally like to work (So I will be a happy Mommy). Alex and I actually went and toured two centers this week, because the waitlist can be long in this small town. We found a Montessouri program we really liked. So on the list we are!
