We welcomed Arbor Alexander Blank to our family on August 1 2013. He was 20 days "early" which was just fine by us because he is perfect. He was 6 lbs 4 oz, 18.5 inches.
We were so happy to deliver him at home with the help of our amazing midwife, Alli. We hadn't thought we would go this route until we met her while searching for a doula and thought about the realities of a home-birth. We also only 5 miles from the hospital, so that helped us feel better.
It was a wonderful and intimate experience to be at home. Labor started the day before at work but got serious around 9 pm the night before. I spent most of the night in the birthing pool with the hopes to have a water birth. Rio slept through the whole night and woke up in the morning during a smooth period to see "Mama swimming". He gave me a hug and a kiss and then we were able to have some friends come and pick him up to play for the day. Once he left things got pretty serious with labor. We ended up having a difficult final phase (much harder than Rio's) but we made it and
Arbor was born at 9:16 am.
Arbor was not born in the water, but we got in the pool after to relax. Alex was wonderful throughout the whole process. He was there for every contraction (even if he was snoring on the floor next to the pool, he provided a hand to squeeze)
We are all happy and healthy and still at home:)

OUR MIDWIFE ALLI DOING ARBOR'S FIRST EXAM...
Rio has been very sweet and proud to be a big brother. We know there will be some challenging times ahead, but the long term bond between these boys will be everlasting!
